Uttarkashi : History and legends of vishwanath temple in uttarkashi

Uttarkashi is not less than any jannat for tourism and there is also religious significance as well.

The ancient Vishwanath temple in Uttarkashi is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is situated 300 meters from the bus stand of Uttarkashi.
It is said that this temple was established by Parashuram ji and Maharani Kanti had repaired the temple in 1857 AD.

Maharani Kanti was the wife of Sudarshan Shah. A Shivalinga is installed in this temple. Tourists coming to Uttarkashi are sure to visit this temple.
There is a Shakt temple on the right side of Vishwanath temple.

This temple has a large trident with 6 meter high and 90 centimeter circumference.
The upper part of the trident is of iron and the lower part is copper. According to legends, goddess Durga (Shakt) killed the demons with this trident. Later this temple was established in the name of these people.
