Georgia Tech Office of Development (DEV)

Led by the Vice President for the Office of Development, Jim Hall ( our fundraising team at Georgia Tech currently consists of more than 100 professionals who are focused on securing transformative philanthropy (major and principal gifts) to support the strategic priorities of the Institute and its colleges, schools, and programs, including Georgia Tech Athletics. For fiscal year 2024 (closed 6/30/2024), the Development teams efforts resulted in over $243 million in new gifts and commitments in support of Transforming Tomorrow: The Campaign for Georgia Tech which will secure more than $2 billion in new commitments and gifts from individuals, foundations, corporations, and other organizations. Serving as the liaison between Georgia Tech and private foundations, the Office of Foundation Relations initiates, cultivates, and secures funding from private foundations to support the Institutes priorities and strategic initiatives. The Georgia Tech Office of Foundation Relations manages relationships with private foundations for the Institute's strategic initiatives, making it possible to advance knowledge across all disciplines.

The Associate Director of Foundation Relations is a front-line fundraiser reporting to the Director in the Office of Foundation Relations. This position is responsible for meeting or exceeding personal annual fundraising goals of $750,000+; managing a portfolio of approximately 30 private local and national foundations and leading the development of and collaboration with faculty and academic staff to submit compelling proposals to national and local foundations for a diverse range of purposes including, but not limited to, research, facilities, programs, scholarship, and endowment. This position also contributes to foundation relations training for colleagues and faculty and positively represents Development within the institution and Georgia Tech externally among funders, collaborators, and others. The Associate Director works as a trusted partner and ready resource for faculty and staff colleagues in Georgia Tech schools, colleges, and programs, as well as for Development, the Office of Research, and the Office of Sponsored Programs, lending foundation relations expertise, strategic guidance and hands-on support in fundraising approaches.

Job Summary

Front-line development officer responsible for assisting with the planning and implementation of a coordinated program of fundraising activities, leveraging the counsel and support of a seasoned development director serving as team leader and supervisor. Uses professional relationship building skills to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors and prospective donors capable of making gifts of $25,000 or more. Support special events to involve and cultivate major gift donors and prospects. Identifies stewardship opportunities for major gift donors. Collaborates with deans, school chairs, and faculty, and coordinates with other development and alumni relations staff. This role provides an opportunity to broaden knowledge of fundraising approaches. This position is expected to contribute to team results while building long term, meaningful donor relationships. Typically solicits gifts in the range of $25,000 to $250,000 and is accountable for raising up to $750,000 per year. Manages a prospect pool of up to 200 prospects.

Will interact on a regular basis with: Alumni, Parents, Corporate and Foundation Representatives, Staff, and Volunteers.

Typically will advise and counsel: Unit Leadership, Deans, Development Officers, and Faculty.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 - Assist with the design and/or implementation of comprehensive fundraising plans for assigned college, school, program, region, or constituency.

Job Duty 2 - Use professional relationship building skills to develop and implement plans and strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift donors and prospective donors. Close major gifts and commitments, both personally and in coordination with supervisor, with a typical gift range of $25,000 to $250,000, and an average annual fundraising accountability up to $750,000.

Job Duty 3 - Establish and maintain a high degree of collaboration with other development officers and staff, as well as deans, school chairs, faculty, and other Institute academic and executive officers.

Job Duty 4 - Submit timely contact reports, prospect plans, and solicitations into tracking system.

Job Duty 5 - Participate in the preparation of written development materials including case statements, proposals, impact reports, and fundraising initiative/campaign related literature for assigned college, school, and/or program(s).

Job Duty 6 - Support special events and/or staff advisory board meetings to involve and cultivate major gift donors and prospective donors.

Job Duty 7 - Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience

Two to three years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising and/or relevant experience in sales and marketing, or other related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience

Two plus years of proven development experience and results in soliciting and closing annual gifts and/or major gifts, and/or experience in a Development Services role in a higher education setting and a campaign environment.

Use of office related computer applications is required. Travel is an essential part of the position as is participation in evening and weekend activities. Focus primarily on securing major gifts and grants from alumni, other individuals, corporations, and foundations.
