Behavior Specialist
Hamden and Trumball area, CT
Full Time

Resources for Human Development, an affiliate of APIS Services, is currently seeking a Full-Time Behavior Specialist in the Hamden and Trumball area. The Behavior Specialist provides clinically oriented behavior support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or mental health diagnosis. The Behavior Specialist will work closely with our clinical, programmatic, residential and day support staff to develop holistic behavioral treatment plans that consider thoughts, feelings and behaviors of our participants within an interpersonal and systematic context.


This systemic approach requires participation on a multidisciplinary team and the training of staff, families and caretakers.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) for all assigned individuals.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain individualized Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) that address the specific needs, goals, and strengths of each participant.
  • Collect, monitor, and analyze behavioral data to guide ongoing treatment decisions and evaluate progress.
  • Collaborate closely with clinical, programmatic, residential, and day support teams to ensure consistent implementation of behavior plans.
  • Train, coach, and model behavioral intervention strategies for staff, families, and caregivers to promote effective support in all environments.
  • Participate as an active member of a multidisciplinary team, contributing insights from a behavioral, emotional, and systemic perspective.
  • Maintain clear and timely documentation in accordance with agency and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinates monthly psych clinic schedules and participates in all psychiatric reviews done by APRN.


Job Qualifications:

  • Three years of related experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Products and Applications.
  • Subject to employment screenings, including FBI clearance, if applicable.
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle required.
  • Bachelor's Degree Required, Master’s Preferred.
  • BCBA preferred, not required.
