Description POSITION SUMMARY :
The Pipe Welder will participate in the installation or maintenance and inspection of HVAC, Utility and Process piping systems.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: \n - Regular attendance at assigned location; may include the A/Z fabrication facility or other project sites;
\n - Works on systems that include Heating Hot Water, Chilled Water, Steam, Condensate, Compressed Air, Process Fluids, Chemical, Fuel Oil, Gasses, and other related systems;
\n - Works with materials that include carbon steel, stainless steel, plastics, fiberglass, copper, (brazed, soft soldered and pro-press);
\n - Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
\n - Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers.
\n - Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.
\n - Weld pipe and components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions using open root butt weld, socket weld and/or fillet weld.
\n - Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.
\n - Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
\n - Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.
\n - Examine work pieces for defects and measures work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
\n - Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreignmatter.
\n - Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
\n - Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals.
\n - Fill holes, and increase the size of metal parts.
\n - Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
\n - Determine required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
\n - Connect and turn regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure so that desired flames are obtained.
\n - Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
\n - Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torches, straightening presses, and hand tools.
\n - Clean or degrease parts, using wire brushes, portable grinders, or chemical baths.
\n - Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
\n - Position and secure work pieces, using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools.
\n - Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
\n - Dismantle metal assemblies or cut scrap metal, using thermal-cutting equipment such as flame-cutting torches or plasma-arc equipment.
\n - Preheat work pieces prior to welding or bending, using torches or heating furnaces.
\n - Hammer out bulges or bends in metal work pieces.
\n - Develop templates and models for welding projects, using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information.
\n - Check grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometers, calipers, and precision measuring instruments.
\n - Cut, contour, and bevel metal plates and structural shapes to dimensions as specified by blueprints, layouts, work orders, and templates, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knives.
\n - Estimate consumable materials needed for production and manufacturing and maintain required stocks of materials.
\n - Set up and use ladders and scaffolding as necessary to complete work.
\n - Use fire suppression methods in industrial emergencies.
\n - Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors;
\n - Direct helpers or apprentices in appropriate tasks;
\n - Must maintain strict adherence to safety rules and quality;
\n - Participate in site housekeeping;
\n - Interact with co-workers in an attentive courteous manner;
\n - Additional duties as directed by management.

Qualifications SKILLS & EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS: \n - Ability to work independently or as part of a team;
\n - Experience: 5 years of Field Experience, trade school or apprenticeship;
\n - Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in industrial construction;
\n - Attention to detail;
\n - Ability to keep hand and arm steady;
\n - Be highly focused on customer satisfaction expectations;
\n - Good documentation and record keeping;
\n - Preparation of miscellaneous paperwork including time sheets, daily reports and material requests;
\n - Competency in Permit Required Confined Space;
\n - Understanding of and strict adherence to daily Job Hazard Analysis (JHA);
\n - Appropriate state certification or license;
\n - OSHA 10 certification.
