Under limited supervision, performs fabrication, installation, removal, programming, repair, calibration, testing and maintenance work on electric meters, transformers, capacitors, services and all types of energized secondary (600V or less) or de-energized energy measuring systems and devices. Performs laboratory testing (600V or less), calibration and maintenance of all meters and metering equipment Installation, exchanges, wiring and testing of transformer rated meters and instrument transformers in the field is excluded Performs meter specialty services on a contract basis. Directs others assisting him/her in such work. Assists in the development and implementation of training. Responsible for effective operation of assigned personnel, and safety of: him/herself, assigned personnel, and the public.
Primary Duties:Must be able to:
1. Safely and effectively complete assigned work with proper use and care of all equipment, tools and material including bucket trucks, scissor and hydraulic lifts.. Works from an elevated position where climbers are not required.
2. Read, understand and carry out provisions of job orders, service orders and associated drawings and sketches. Knowledgeable with records, calculations, accounting practices and tariff requirements associated with metering.
3. Communicate with the public in the best interest of the Company.
4. Investigate non-transformer and transformer rated customer and Company complaints; correcting or reporting the conditions.
5. Read electric and gas meters. Install or remove electric meters and services; make collections on non-residential, non-transformer accounts, reconnect and disconnect non-transformer rated electric meters and services; and inspect, test, or repair related secondary equipment
6 Take necessary training to progress.
7. Perform other related or less-skilled work as required or directed.
Minimum Qualifications:Must be and remain thoroughly familiar with the Company's safety rules applicable to this and related jobs.
Progression requires satisfactorily completing each step within the Meter Technician classification and passing a step progression test, when and if developed, before promotion to me next higher step. Employees shall not be permitted to remain at any step of the Meter Technician progression if they fail to pass a test a second time.
Must pass qualification test prior to Company awarding job, and also must pass subsequent step progression tests, when and if developed. Failure to pass any of the step progression tests will require remaining at the current step with the employee eligible for retesting within the next six (6) months. Failure to pass any of the tests a second time will result in the employee being reassigned as follows:
1. An employee promoted or transferred into this classification shall be reassigned under Article 4, Section 9 when applicable, or reassigned to any entry level bargaining unit position.
2. An employee hired into this classification (not promoted or transferred) shall be placed in an existing entry level bargaining unit position vacancy at any location for which the Company deems the employee is qualified, providing a vacancy exists; unless during a thirty (30) day period the employee is awarded another position through the bidding process. If, after thirty (30) days, the employee has not been awarded another position through the bidding process, the Company will offer the employee an entry level bargaining unit position, and if the employee refuses this offer, the employee will be terminated.

Same as required for the Meter Technical Trainee.
