Environmental Compliance Specialist

BB&E is a full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors.

Position Summary

BB&E is currently looking for an Environmental Compliance Specialist to support our existing federal and private sector portfolios. Based in Northville, MI, you will assist BB&E’s clients with sustainability initiatives, management system implementation, and maintaining compliance with Federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist with environmental compliance permitting including air, stormwater, and wastewater and maintaining compliance of environmental permits for our clients
  • Oversee regulatory and other external reporting requirements and ensure reports are completed in a timely and accurate manner, e.g. Tier II reports, TRI, Form R reports, biennial hazardous waste reports, discharge monitoring reports, air emission reports, etc.
  • Develop plans, including SPCC plans, SWPPPs, hazardous waste contingency plans, waste management plans, etc.
  • Assist clients with onsite waste characterization and proper waste disposal options
  • Deliver environmental training to clients
  • Conduct environmental, health & safety audits
Key Qualifications
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training is required
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and 45001 management systems
  • Knowledge of and experience with federal, state, and local environmental regulations including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 (SARA), and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate with clients at all levels within an organization
  • Applicable certifications could include EIT, GIT, PE, PG, CHMM, CEP etc.
Experience & Education
  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science or engineering or similar degree is required
  • 4-8+ years’ experience in multi-media environmental compliance for industrial and/or federal facilities
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
  • Capable of light lifting, up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to work on-site
  • Working conditions:
  • Able to work both indoor/outdoor (with exposure to the elements)
  • Able to walk/climb/knee/crouch and reach
  • Able to work on rough terrain when necessary
  • Able to work in confined spaces and/or heights
  • Able to wear the required PPE
  • Exposure to hazards/contaminants at times
