Executive Director of Administration and Chief of Staff ( E D A C O S) Oregon State University Department: Vice Provost Univ Info & Tech ( J I S) Appointment Type: Professional Faculty Job Location: Corvallis Recommended Full- Time Salary Range: $145,000 - $175,000 Job Summary: University Information Technology is seeking an Executive Director of Administration & Chief of Staff ( E D A C O S). This is a full-time (1.00 F T E),12-month, professional faculty position. Reporting to the Vice Provost & Chief Information Officer ( C I O), the U I T Executive Director of Administration and Chief of Staff ( E D A C O S) is a dynamic and strategic leader within the Office of the C I O. This role demands a strong, decisive individual with proven experience in talent management and a relentless drive to achieve results. As a key proponent of the ‘art of possibilities,’ this role is also crucial for the C I O’s ambition to remain at the forefront of educational excellence and innovation. As a key thought partner to the C I O, the E D A C O S will develop and maintain close working relationships with the C I O and stakeholders, both internal and external to U I T including U I T’s H R Strategic Partner to advance all priorities and initiatives. The E D A C O S reports directly to the C I O and serves as the primary contact on all matters involving the Office of the C I O. The E D A C O S will support daily, mid-term, and long-term activities and programs that advance the C I O’s agenda, ensuring that goals and objectives are consistently met. This role requires adaptability as priority areas evolve over time. The E D A C O S will build and maintain strong relationships with the C I O Executive Team and respond to time-sensitive and urgent situations, requiring 24/7 availability during crises. This position will be responsible for developing and overseeing the management of the U I T $ X X M budget. Balancing daily tasks with a broader portfolio of project work is essential. As a member of the C I O Executive Team, the E D A C O S will oversee the annual I T Roadmap, I T Talent Development & Management, program project portfolio, and financial and human resource planning and allocations. The E D A C O S will have the authority and responsibility for effective planning and execution of I T strategies, managing human and fiscal resources, fostering business relationships, ensuring excellent customer service, and maintaining intra- and inter-institutional relationships. A critical aspect of this role is leveraging data to drive decisions. The E D A C O S will establish key performance indicators, develop and maintain executive-level reports and dashboards, and use data analytics to provide visibility into the I T department’s performance and inform strategic adjustments. This role is crucial in ensuring that I T talent is continuously growing in skills and capabilities, and that the U I T portfolio of activities is effectively and efficiently aligned with O S U I T strategies. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with a strong track record of managing talent, proven record of managing resources (including human and financial), driving organizational success, fostering collaborative relationships across the institution, and making data-driven decisions. In this role, E D A C O S will also have direct responsibility for spearheading the strategy and execution of talent optimization in the wake of a comprehensive digital and business process transformation. This pivotal role will collaborate closely with University H R and University I T leaders to redefine the I T workforce landscape, considering the implications of artificial intelligence, competitive alternative knowledge paths, escalating personnel costs, and transformative digital and business processes. The incumbent will be instrumental in reimagining and reshaping a dynamic, ever evolving, and highly productive workforce that breaks away from traditional norms. Leveraging I T and our large administrative modernization program ( A M P) impacted positions as a test-bed, this role will pioneer innovative organizational structures and foster a culture of continuous growth and possibility and help O S U design the future I T workforce as a highly engaged, productive and well-balanced team. At least 5 years of progressive leadership experience in I T management, strategic planning, and/or talent management. Proven experience in developing and executing strategic plans and I T roadmaps. Experience in workforce management, including talent planning, development, upskilling, and alignment with strategic goals. Demonstrated experience in budget development and financial planning. Strong background in stakeholder engagement and collaboration across departments. Experience working in higher education providing vision/strategy at a senior level. Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and guide staff. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent the C I O’s interests effectively.
