Heavy Equipment Service Technician

Contractors Sales Company, Inc. is growing! This is your opportunity to join the Capital District's premier heavy construction equipment dealership's Service team. Contractors Sales headquartered in Albany, NY is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Technician - Earthmoving.

The ideal candidate will have the knowledge and experience to effectively diagnose, troubleshoot and repair heavy construction equipment - including but not limited to mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems on excavators, wheel loaders, drill rigs, portable crushing and screening plants, hydraulic breakers and road wideners. Qualified candidates will have the ability to analyze and resolve problems independently in a safe, timely, and professional manner, providing exceptional service and performing high-quality repairs.

Pay : Starts at $35.50 per hour. Candidates with additional experience may be eligible for a higher starting rate.

This is a union position with the Local 158 Operating Engineers.

Work Hours : Monday - Friday, Day Shift, with overtime as needed

Job Type : Full-Time

Job Responsibilities

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the completion of preventative maintenance and repair schedules for customer equipment and our rental fleet (150 pieces)
  • Effective troubleshooting and diagnosis of complex technical problems independently - identifying problems and cause of failure through logical troubleshooting steps
  • Removing, disassembling, assembling, and installing components and parts - ensuring proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications
  • Cleaning, repairing, reconditioning, and maintaining rental fleet and customer equipment and components
  • Documenting and reporting work performed to service management
  • Performing related duties as assigned

Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the technical diagnosis, repair and maintenance of heavy equipment. Previous Road/Field Technician or Military Technician experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Link-Belt, Hitachi, Kawasaki, Sandvik and/or Anaconda heavy equipment preferred but not required
  • A diploma from a heavy equipment repair trade school preferred
  • Prior experience rebuilding diesel engines, transmissions and hydraulic pumps
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex after treatment exhaust systems
  • Ability to be self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented and consistently meet deadlines - requiring minimal supervision
  • Effective listener and communicator (verbal and written) with diverse groups of people at all levels including leadership, team members and customers
  • Dedicated to working in an environment where team members at all skill levels can perform at their best every day
  • Must have own full set of tools to perform work safely and effectively
  • Stays current with trends in heavy equipment and related technologies
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

Work Environment

  • Role involves daily work in a shop environment and are expected to maintain safe work practices.
  • Candidates hired into this role will be exposed to various hazardous materials, outdoor weather conditions and will work near moving and rotating machinery daily.
  • This position may require some travel

Physical & Mental Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Perform extensive standing, walking, bending, stooping and use of hands
  • Frequent talking, hearing, kneeling, crouching and crawling
  • Utilize the tools, machinery and testing equipment required for all duties
  • Effectively work with laptop diagnostic tools and use other computer programs
  • Effectively read, understand and utilize technical manuals, hydraulic and electrical schematics
  • Effectively complete tasks in a noisy environment
  • Effectively apply established protocols in a timely manner
