Salary/Grade: 681/U8
Position is part of a collective bargaining unit. Pay for this position will be $49.09 per hour. Rate is determined by collective bargaining agreement.
Job Summary: Under minimal direction, performs a variety of skilled tasks proficiently in the maintenance and repair of University security systems as well as occasional work relating to the carpentry trade. Performs work independently with considerable latitude for determining proper materials and work methods, is subject to inspection upon completion. May instruct and supervise semi-skilled and unskilled workers.

Specific Responsibilities :
- Maintains, repairs, rebuilds and installs locks, doorknobs, door closers, panic hardware, related mechanical equipment and door hardware. Repairs steel doors, hinges, desk and file cabinet locks, and office furniture locks.
- Program and maintain electronic access control systems.
- Updates and maintains records for security systems including key and combination codes (both written and computerized).
- Performs master system coding, cylinder combination setups, and multi-combination setups.
- Opens, repairs, and rebuilds safe and vault locks and cuts keys.
- Performs carpentry tasks necessary in the repair of security devices and door hardware.
- Other duties as assigned;
- Must be available and capable of responding to irregularities during evenings and weekends ensuring 24 hour, 7 day per week coverage.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances) - High School diploma, GED or equivalent combination of educational training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
- Experience in maintenance and repair of security systems at the journeyman level, with relevant work experience of five (5) years or more;
- Experience with electronic security systems and data communication;
- Be a member of Laborers Local 681, or join after one month of employment;
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license recognized by the State of Illinois, provide own reliable transportation, and purchase a University parking permit.

- Thorough knowledge of the tools, instruments, methods and standard trade/safety practices;
- Successfully uses multiple software program independently. Software may include Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook, webmail and Peoplesoft;
- Proficiency with mobile devices including iOS.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience) - Comprehensive knowledge of methods, procedures and tools used for maintenance, repair and coding of security systems;
- Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance and repair of security systems at the journeyman level;
- Comprehensive experience with electronic security systems and data communication;
- ALOA certification or comparable.
