Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Obstetrical Nursing, the Lactation Consultant meets with breastfeeding women and families to define and achieve their breastfeeding goals. The Lactation consultant is the expert in the unit on breastfeeding practice and sets the standard for breastfeeding education and techniques used within the hospital.
Minimum Qualifications
· Education
o High school diploma required.
o Graduate of an accredited nursing school preferred.
· Experience
o A minimum of three to five years experience with childbearing families or maternal health nursing required.
· Licensure and/or Certification
o IBLC required.
o BLS healthcare provider required.
o Licensed in professional nursing in Massachusetts preferred.
· Skills
o Interpersonal skills.
o Communication skills.
o Teaching/education skills.
o Computer skills.
o Must have the ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
o Ability to maintain confidential information.
