About this role The Locksmith Technician is responsible for workflow development, installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical and electronic locks, safes, and associated door and access control system hardware. Provides technical oversight and coordination of mechanical and electronic lock servicing, minor lock rekeying, and major master keying projects. Ensures the continued integrity of the College's master key program and provides assistance with bids, vendors, and inventory.
What a day of a Locksmith Technician looks like: - Installs, repairs, and maintains mechanical and electronic locks, safes, doors, and associated hardware to ensure proper operation. Provides technical expertise in this area throughout the College.
- Performs programming of electronic locks and access management software, and escalates issues as needed. Aids vendors and internal departments to identify and resolve more complex access control software issues.
- Maintains the master key and key management system in conjunction with the key management specialist.
- Repairs or replaces faulty or damaged hardware as needed. Responds to a variety of work order calls. Troubleshoots and resolves issues effectively.
- Collaborates with various departments to provide locksmith support on all building projects.
- Prepares material list for ordering materials and supplies to complete assigned tasks.
- Coordinates and allocates department or campus resources in response to extraordinary circumstances that make standard operating procedures inappropriate.
- Performs preventive and deferred maintenance for mechanical and electronic locking systems and associated hardware.
- Follows established safety practices and maintains and performs in a safe workplace.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
We'd love to hear from you if you have the following: Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED with additional training related to the position
- Two years of related experience, to include experience working with electronic locking systems
Knowledge of:
- Mechanical locksmith trade including keying, master keying, repairing, installing, and servicing locks and associated hardware
- Electrified door hardware and access control system components, hardware and software
- Microsoft Office Professional or similar application
Skilled in:
- Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management
- Creative thinking and problem solving to explore new technology, processes, and approaches
Ability to:
- Repair, install, and service mechanical and electronic locks and related hardware
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations, and take responsibility for a high level of service
- Interact in a positive manner with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public
Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:
- Regular physical attendance required
- Valid Florida driver's license
Preferred but not a must: Education and Experience:
- Four years of related experience
Work Environment and Physical Demand: - Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing 20 to 49 pounds

- Reach and grasp objects
- Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl

- Proofread and check documents for accuracy
- Work with equipment or perform procedures where carelessness may result in injury
- Experience exposure to uncomfortable work environment due to extreme temperature, noise level and other conditions
- Operate a motor vehicle

The minimum base pay for this position starts at $20.47 hourly; however, the offer may vary based on the candidate's education and experience.
