Job Overview:
We are currently hiring for an experienced Medical Coder for a healthcare management company. This position offers the opportunity to start as a coder with the potential to transition into an auditing role. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in coding, clinical documentation, and an attention to detail. Additionally, this coder should have experience within at least one of the following specialties: Pain Management, ER, Injections, or Infusions . The role will primarily involve manual coding and documentation review, working with physicians, management, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate medical coding and proper claim submissions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Code and abstract clinical data for inpatient/outpatient encounters using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
- Review and resolve discrepancies in clinical documentation and charge capture.
- Perform medical necessity checks using the CMS website for Medicare tests.
- Follow up on accounts on hold due to billing or documentation issues.
- Scrub claims to ensure coding accuracy and compliance with guidelines.
- Address coding-related denials and rejections.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure compliance with security protocols.
- Code for specialties including Pain Management, ER, Injections, and Infusions.
- Audit documentation and codes for accuracy and compliance.
Requirements:
Must Have Skills/Qualifications:
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of coding experience , including inpatient/facility coding.
- Certifications: Certified as either a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) .
- Specialty Experience: Strong background in coding for Pain Management, ER, Injections/Infusions .
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding . Ability to use personal computers in a Windows environment with basic word processing and data entry.
- Attention to Detail: Must be highly detail-oriented with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in coding and documentation.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience with hospital coding and facility coding.
- Familiarity with PCS , observation codes , drug codes , and GoRev EMR .
Schedule/Shift:
- Work Hours: Monday to Friday, with flexible start times between 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM .
- Onsite Onboarding: The first day of onboarding will be onsite, and all subsequent days will be remote.
