Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending applicants may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have satisfied the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only when recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
• Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
• Current, unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S.
• Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification; approved residencies include those by ACGME, AOA, or equivalent non-US programs with at least five years of verified practice in the U.S.
• Enrollment in or completion of ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs, eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs); PRPs must be fully licensed and only appointed on an intermittent or fee basis, with no independent practice privileges
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Certification in Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine
• DEA Waiver to prescribe Buprenorphine
• Experience in treating Opioid Use Disorders
• Preferred: ABPN Addiction Board Certification
• Physical ability to perform all activities of the position without restrictions

Duties

• This is an open continuous announcement; qualified applicants will be referred weekly.
• Provide healthcare services to veteran patients at Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Healthcare System, including psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team for complex/chronic pain and opioid use disorder management.
• Refer patients to ancillary services or specialty clinics as appropriate, and document all care in the CPRS system on the day of service.
• Prescribe medications in accordance with the formulary, with variance only when clinically indicated.
• Serve as treatment and consulting psychiatrist on the Pain Management Clinic Team.
• Complete administrative tasks related to referrals or transfers, and adhere to VA policies and medical staff regulations.
• Provide psychiatric consultation to other services and perform all other assigned duties.
