We are excited to offer the opportunity to work as a Public Health Nurse in our Family Health Services department. The hours are generally Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm, with one to two days per week working until 7:00 pm.

Responsibilities

  • Provide WIC nutrition counseling and breastfeeding support
  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments for pregnant/postpartum individuals and their infants
  • Connect clients to medical, social, and community resources through referrals
  • Deliver nursing services in clinic, community, and home settings
  • Counsel individuals and families on health needs and concerns
  • Educate clients individually and in small groups
  • Develop individualized care plans
  • Administer vaccines and apply fluoride varnish for infants and children
  • Perform screenings (perinatal depression, social determinants of health, ages and stages)
  • Complete documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Participate in emergency response activities as assigned

Requirements


Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and one year of nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of training, and experience.
Current Registered Nurse license from the State of Illinois.

Good knowledge of practices and principles of public health nursing; good knowledge of social and economic factors influencing client behavior; good knowledge of immunization, diagnostic and laboratory procedures, tests and analyses; good knowledge of the inherent danger and applicable precautions to be taken with the use of medication; good knowledge of local health resources; some knowledge of medical record documentation and maintenance.

Working skill in providing services; working skill in developing and maintaining positive and professional relationships with internal and external customers; working skill in maintaining appropriate medical documentation; working skill in delegating and assigning work to others; working skill in analyzing client needs; working skill in written and verbal communication; working skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software, and peripheral equipment.
