Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting a  Radiation Safety Manager in West Valley, NY.

The Radiation Safety Manager is responsible for field implementation of CHBWV’s Radiological Controls Program in assigned project.

Requirements

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or safety-related technical field or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience and a minimum of ten (10) years of related experience including 3 years of supervisory/management experience with a minimum of four (4) years of experience working at a nuclear facility or DOE government contractor.

Licenses/Certifications:

Certification by the American Board of Health Physicists is preferred in accordance with the DOE RadCon Standard Article 142.

Other Requirements

Must possess mastery knowledge of radiological controls trends, theories, principles, techniques, policies, regulations, and legal requirements.  Must have technical competence and experience to guide the radiological controls (including dosimetry and instrumentation) and the supervisory capability to direct the implementation and maintenance of the program.

Must be able to anticipate, identify, and resolve a wide variety of complex assignments.  Must possess highly developed organizations skills and be able to manage projects and special assignments to deliver results on time and within budget.

Must possess mastery knowledge and experience in regulations and requirements pertaining to health physics.  This knowledge is required in order to make sound judgments and recommendations in resolving technical and non-technical issues

Must possess field experience in construction-related activities (i.e., environmental monitoring of large construction projects [pipelines, power plants] and remedial actions).

Must be able to anticipate, identify, and resolve a wide variety of complex radiological control issues.  Must possess highly developed organizational skills and be able to manage projects and special assignments to deliver results on time and within budget.

Must possess effective oral and written communication skills.

Must possess a demonstrated ability to effectively manage and lead a professional organization in a team environment.

Must be able to trend, analyze, and anticipate a wide variety of radiological control issues and provide documented solutions to difficult problems.  Must have the ability to interpret and apply policies, guidelines, laws, and instructions from multiple sources in a comprehensive approach.  Must be able to make presentations to employees, management, and government officials, local, state and national stakeholders.  Must be able to produce, edit, and present technically accurate documents, reports and forms.

Must be able to create broad and intensive practices to establish concepts, theories, or programs, or to resolve complex problems.  Must possess mastery knowledge of industry specific software.

Must be able to interface with individuals or groups from inside and outside the organization, senior management, as well as high-ranking officials from outside the organization.  Must be able to justify, defend, negotiate, or settle contract matters involving significant or controversial issues in accordance to contract practices.

Major Responsibilities, Duties, and Tasks

1.     Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations.

2.     Implement and adhere to standards contained in the Company “Code of Conduct,” Company EEO practices, and DOE directives.

3.     Assist ESHQ Manager in attaining cost-effective regulatory compliance while performing mission activities.

4.     Responsible for field input to the Training, Procedures & Programs Group which provides training for RadCon Inspectors and First Line Managers.

5.     Direct and support management in evaluating, monitoring and interpreting levels of radiation and contamination at the WVDP site and determine appropriate preventative measures to limit exposure of site personnel, environment and the public.

6.     Provide oversight of assigned subcontract personnel that provide radiological protection support to CHBWV.

7.     Participate in the self-assessment program and may serve as CHBWV subject matter expert (SME) for Radiological Protection.

8.     Manage all aspects of the departments operations including planning, resource allocation, budgeting and assigned employees.

9.     Accomplishes financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.

10.  Directs all activities associated with the development and implementation of policies, procedures and systems supporting the Radiation Protection Program elements.

11.  Develop department resources to ensure sufficient integration in to all phases of business unit; this would include training, cross training, mentoring and special project assignments.

12.  Coordinate systematic sequencing of department activities to ensure reduction in redundancies and error free/defended work associated with current mission (ie. Looking at work planning and requirements.).

13.  Regular attendance is required.
