The Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning public agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational facilities, programs, events, parks and open spaces. Spring Valley features 135 acres of prairie, woodlands and wetlands, three miles of walking trails and an 1880s living history farm. Our newest amenity is Bisons Bluff Nature Playground, a unique play area custom designed to engage children in active and passive play in a natural setting.

JOB SUMMARY: Our Spring Valley receptionist team provides the first point of contact for customers calling or visiting the Nature Center & Heritage Farm. The role is responsible for making guests feel welcome and being available to answer questions and provide information about the site. Responsibilities include answering phones, handling cash register sales, preparing deposits, processing program registrations, maintaining neatness of interactive displays, refilling inventory in gift sales area, and some clerical duties. Weekend responsibilities will include opening/closing either the Nature Center or Farm Museum Shop.
QUALIFICATIONS: The best applicants will have exemplary customer service skills and genuinely enjoy interacting with the public. Some office/clerical and computer experience required, including familiarity with Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to work independently and willingness to adjust to a changing pace of work. Applicants must be 18+ years of age. The ideal candidate will have a flexible schedule that allows for working various days of the week when needed.
SCHEDULING & PAY: This is a year-round, part-time position paying $15.00/hour. Normal schedule is 10-20 hours per week, 2-4 days a week (including weekends and some holidays). Nature Center weekday hours are generally 12-6pm with weekends split between morning and afternoon shifts (10am-2pm or 2pm-6pm). Hours will vary seasonally (busy season is April-October). Heritage Farm hours are generally 10am-4pm, Wednesday through Sunday (season runs April November).
