Job Summary and Qualifications

We are seeking a Lactation Consultant for our facility to ensure that we continue to provide all patients with high quality, efficient care. What you will do in this role:

• The Lactation Consultant utilizes the standards of practice of the International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants in ensuring safe and competent quality patient care.
• The Lactation Consultant supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff, and assists with the development of an overall educational program for care givers providing services to the childbearing family which is congruent with the mission and objectives of the hospital.
• The Lactation Consultant provides leadership by working cooperatively with nursing and other ancillary patient care team personnel in maintaining standards for professional Lactation Consultant practice in the clinical and educational setting.
• The Lactation Consultant provides direction to all patient care personnel in providing lactation support.
• The Lactation Consultant must be able to assess her own learning needs to enhance personal and professional development.
• The Lactation Consultant will increase knowledge and skills related to patient care by attending and assisting in the development of workshops, formal classes, seminars and in services. 

What qualifications you will need:

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of nursing
• Current RN license
• American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification
• Current Certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Certified Lactation Counselor, or Certified Lactation Educator.
• Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in lactation support, education, and consultation with breastfeeding dyads.
• 2 years Prenatal Education Experience preferred
• NRP certified within 90 days of hire
• STABLE certification required as a onetime certification. A new hire who has not obtained it before will have 6 months to complete.
