Job Description

SUMMARY

The Transplantation Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the bone marrow, stem cell and blood transplantation program for MDACC patients:

• Coordinates patient benefits; ensures financial clearance. Arranges or physically couriers donor products.
• Travels nationally and internationally with little notice to courier, monitor and manipulate donor products to ensure viability.
• Maintains donor and recipient confidentiality. Responsible for collection and submission of charges for search process.
• Educates patients and general public regarding the transplantation/search process.

The ideal candidate will be a certified medical technologist with human leukocyte antigen (HLA) experience.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

MUD

• Performs searches for matched unrelated donors through national/international registries and maintains status reports.
• Also maintains search transfers, CT arrivals and pre-collect samples as needed.

Patient Tracking

• Schedules patient tests, keeps patients/families updated on donor searches and test results, and arranges admissions.
• Collaborates with physicians, department management, data managers and research nurses to complete and document patient care.

Administrative

• Completes all required forms (patient updates, form 22, etc) in a timely manner.
• Also maintains patient/donor correspondence.
• Provides lab packs with courier information to SCT processing lab.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology or other health care related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Two years of laboratory or human leukocyte antigen (HLA) experience.
