This position works during the school year (academic year) and is full-time and eligible for full benefits! Our Cooks are essential staff at the Oregon School for the Deaf. They oversee staffing and meal production for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This includes ensuring meals, snacks, food requests, and catered events are completed in a safe and sanitary manner, producing food items that are satisfactory to students and staff. What we are looking for: One year of experience as a cook in a food service facility OR possession of a Certificate of Completion in culinary arts and/or Foods and Hospitality Service from a certified community college or technical school. This position requires the employee to obtain a food handler’s card within 30 days of hire. We encourage our Cooks to obtain ASL certification at Level 1 (ASLPI). Staff obtaining certification at Level 2 are eligible for a five percent (5%) bilingual differential. Fingerprinting, Background Check, and Drug Screening: Applicants will be subject to a finger-print based criminal history check including driving record. Adverse background data may be grounds for immediate disqualification. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude an appointment. The circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered.
