Visit Responsibilities As a Engineering Technician, you will: Assemble, install, adjust, calibrate, modify and maintain equipment to meet requirements. Modify equipment and laboratory procedures to resolve operating problems and to use equipment more effectively, improve the accuracy and reliability of results, or improve safety. Integrates work with other efforts. Collaborate with laboratory and other staff members to identify equipment needs, equipment characteristics, operating needs, and other information necessary to quantify equipment requirements to support current and future operations. Research current equipment inventories to identify resources available; identify gaps in inventories; and research manufacturer and supplier catalogs to identify and recommend equipment acquisition. Provide expertise and guidance to a variety of researchers and laboratory personnel on the practicality of modifying or adapting new or existing equipment to meet new requirements. Requirements Conditions of Employment Due to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) process enhancement to use Shared Certificates throughout the Agency, some of the requirements below may differ: US Citizenship required. Qualifications All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Minimum Qualifications: For GS-7: To qualify at the GS-7 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-6 grade level, which must include the following experience: applying technical engineering methods, techniques in a laboratory and/or field setting by assembling, installing, adjusting, calibrating, modifying and/or maintaining scientific and field equipment. OR Have one full year of graduate education in a field directly related to the work of the position. OR Have a combination of experience and education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. For GS-8: To qualify at the GS-8 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-7 grade level, which must include the following experience: applying technical engineering methods to install, adjust, calibrate, modify and/or maintain scientific and field equipment for the purpose of resolving problems, improving equipment efficiency and reliability of results. OR One and a half years of graduate education in a field directly related to the work of the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Promotion potential: Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your meeting qualifications and time-in-grade requirements, demonstrated ability to perform the higher-level duties, the continuing need for the higher-level duties, and administrative approval.
