The City of Greensboro is seeking a dedicated and experienced Light Equipment Operator to join our Solid Waste and Recycling Department. In this role, you will be responsible for operating various light equipment to maintain the cleanliness and safety of Greensboro's streets and public spaces. Compensation and Benefits: The Full Salary Range for this position is $41,781 - $54,981.00 Annually. The Hiring Range is $41,781-$45190 Annually depending on qualifications, with an excellent benefits package. You can learn more about the benefits that the City of Greensboro offers by visiting

Work Schedule:
1 position FIRST SHIFT 6:30a-5p Tuesday-Friday
1 position THIRD SHIFT Sunday-Thursday 10:30PM-06:30AM
About the Role: This Light Equipment Operator will be responsible for operation of a street sweeper, flusher, front-loader, knuckle boom loader, and a single-axle do-all vehicle. The primary duties will include sweeping curb and gutter streets using a street sweeper/flusher, knuckle boom loader, and front-loader truck.
Other job duties include:
•Cleaning illegal dump sites
•Collecting sweeper dumps
•Right-of-way tree limb and curb line cut backs
•Various washouts
•Litter collection
•Dead animal removal
•Island cleaning

This employee is expected to be a crew leader during loose leaf collection program and to participate in the snow and ice removal program. The employee will be on an emergency call back rotating schedule and will be assigned to special events throughout the year. These special events normally happen on week nights, holidays, and weekends.

The selected applicant must possess the ability to follow written and prepared routes, use two-way radios, communicate both orally and in written form, and complete daily survey and vehicle inspection forms. The schedule is subject to change during a holiday week or for emergency service which may require working a flexible schedule with little or no notice and may include weekends or holidays. This employee must have good attendance.

The physical duties include: standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, walking on uneven surfaces, shoveling, and heavy lifting up to (50 pounds). Work is performed outside in all weather conditions. This employee must have and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker and air brake endorsements and a reliable means of contact such as home or cellular telephone. Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• Class A or B commercial driver's license
• 1/+ years experience with street cleaning - i.e., litter collections or a public works-related field

Preferred Qualifications:

• Tanker endorsement
• Experience operating a sweeper/flusher or front-loader truck
• 4/+ years of experience with street cleaning - i.e., litter collection or a public works-related field
