Locksmith 3 - Washington, DC Position Overview: The Locksmith will play a critical role in ensuring the security and functionality of all locking mechanisms within our facilities. This position involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of locks and security devices across various buildings and assets. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with both traditional and modern locking systems, possess strong problem-solving skills, and be able to respond effectively to emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities: - Install, repair, replace, and maintain a wide variety of locks and security devices, ensuring all systems are functioning properly.
- Open locks without keys through picking, drilling, and other methods, ensuring minimal damage to property.
- Duplicate keys and replace or install finished building hardware such as door closures, panic bars, and other critical components.
- Repair locks on file cabinets, desks, and other furniture, maintaining the security and integrity of sensitive materials.
- Maintain accurate records of key assignments, ensuring all changes in key and lock assignments are meticulously documented.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on all locks and related hardware, ensuring longevity and reliability.
- Operate and maintain tools of the trade, ensuring all equipment is in good working order.
- Respond promptly to emergency calls, providing immediate assistance in resolving lock-related issues.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Shift Operating Engineer, contributing to the overall safety and efficiency of the facility.
Experience / Requirements: - Ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD & Top-Secret Security Clearance is preferred, with active clearance preferred
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly in maintaining accurate records.
- Ability to work independently and handle emergency situations with composure.
- Strong technical skills in lock installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Preferred - GSA Certified Safe and Vault Technician w/ GSA Approved Inspector or ability to obtain
- A minimum of 6 years of experience as a locksmith, with a strong understanding of both traditional and modern locking systems.
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or vocational program for locksmiths is preferred.

Pay range: $30-$40
Physical Abilities/Requirements: - Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time.
- Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
- Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
- Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
- Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
- May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
- Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
- Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
- Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
