Overview

The Medical Affairs Senior Director provides medical and scientific leadership in the assigned Therapeutic Area(s) (TA). This role works closely with a crossfunctional group to ensure that scientific and medical strategies are aligned with broader corporate and key stakeholder needs and to ensure flawless execution of Nephrology medical plans.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop medical affairs plans, including Launch and Life Cycle Management plans
  • Critically interpret scientific data, determine the potential impact of new research on clinical practice, and use scientific and clinical data to formulate frameworks and diseasemanagement approaches
  • Share country/regional insights with global teams to ensure global medical strategies and activities reflect the needs of the country/region
  • Effectively communicate scientific data through presentations and publications
  • Provide fair and balanced medical information and education to health care professionals and payers that support the safe and effective use of Vertex drugs in the appropriate patients
  • Foster patient access to Vertex drugs by supporting the commercial organization in the preparation/review of reimbursement dossiers and presenting scientific data as required to key stakeholders in the access process
  • Perform/oversee medical/scientific training for field medical teams, commercial, and other internal stakeholders
  • Contribute to the local Brand Team, representing the TA (scientific and medical expertise) and ensuring all activities address patient wellbeing and respect data integrity
  • Ensure compliance at country level with company policies, medical affairs SOPs, GCP and ICH
  • Assess local promotional materials and ensure that all claims are fully supported by scientific data and are presented in an accurate, fair and balanced manner

Knowledge and Skills

  • Deep understanding of global medical, regulatory and commercial (including payer) environments
  • Excellent understanding of government and industry guidelines, regulations and laws for appropriate scientific/medical exchange and communication with key external stakeholders (e.g., healthcare providers, payers, advocacy bodies)
  • Deep understanding of market access in key countries
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to influence others internally/externally
  • Ability to develop relationships in a highly matrixed environment, as well as external relationships with global, regional and local thought leaders and industry experts
  • Ability to engage in positive dialogue and resolve conflicts constructively
  • Track record of planning, initiating and completing projects within allotted time frames and delivering highquality successful results
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary and multicultural team on common projects and goals, at national and regional level
  • Capacity to critically analyze current scientific literature

Education and Experience

  • Terminal scientific degree (e.g., PhD or PharmD)
  • Typically requires 10 years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Pay Range

$240,000 $360,000

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience and other jobrelated factors permitted by law.
