The Meter Reader performs routine clerical work in the reading of meters for electrical and/or water consumption, and records volumes used by residential and commercial consumers. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Walks or drives over established routes and takes readings of meter dials
Inspects meters for defects, damage, and unauthorized connections
Indicates irregularities on forms for necessary action
Checks reading to locate abnormal consumption and records the reason for fluctuations
Assigns control numbers to all meter cards used in routing consumers
Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge of meter reading procedures
Knowledge of the geography and street locations of the island
Knowledge of the hazards of the trade and precautions to be observed
Ability to verbally express oneself in a clear and concise manner
Ability to write legibly and follow moderately complex written and oral instructions
Ability to make simple arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately
Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public
Skilled in reading numbers with speed and accuracy
Must possess a valid V.I. driver's license.
High school diploma, or equivalent, including courses in the electrical trade.
