About the Role: Special Education Coordinator

Are you passionate about supporting students who face emotional and physical challenges? As our Special Education Coordinator , you will play a crucial role in helping at-risk students thrive in our rigorous academic environment. You will be responsible for providing the academic, emotional, and physical services that these students need to succeed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure all students receive the educational services they need to excel.
  • Identify special education needs of incoming students through family questionnaires.
  • Review intake assessment results to pinpoint special education requirements.
  • Schedule and provide pull-out services as necessary.
  • Coordinate and chair team and pre-referral meetings.
  • Conduct academic testing as part of the evaluation process.
  • Perform classroom observations and psychological testing as needed.
  • Ensure all regular education teachers understand IEP accommodations.
  • Deliver tailored instruction in one-on-one, small group, and whole class settings.
  • Maintain student records and prepare reports for regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with all special education laws and regulations.
  • Contribute to the design of curriculum materials.
  • Administer rigorous, standards-based assessments and refine curriculum based on data.
  • Help foster a culture of order, structure, humanity, and academic rigor.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and administrators to support all students on their journey to high school and college.

Qualifications

  • A drive to improve the minds and lives of students both in and out of the classroom.
  • A proven track record of high achievement in the classroom.
  • Mastery and enthusiasm for academic subjects.
  • Self-motivated and a team player.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public or charter school setting preferred.
  • Special Education teaching certification required.
  • Alignment with Uncommon’s core beliefs and educational philosophy is essential.

Licensing Requirements

To qualify as an administrator of special education, you must hold:

  • A Massachusetts special education license with passing MTELs for:
    • Communication & Literacy
    • SEI Endorsement
    • Subject Specific
  • Demonstrated qualifications to uphold state and federal laws.
  • A Moderate Disabilities license.

Compensation

The salary for this role ranges from $57,000 to $89,000 . Most candidates who meet the job requirements will receive an offer between $57,000 and $65,000 . Starting pay is determined based on various factors, including relevant professional development, education certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools.
